James Blackwood Update - Thur. Jan. 31 January 31, 2002
According to his son Jimmy's website, James is getting worse. In the past week James has developed pneumonis and the doctors have stopped taking his vital signs. Jimmy writes that his father is sedated and today (Thursday, Jan. 31) his breathing has become more rapid and labored. Jimmy writes; "It is not easy to sit here and wait for each breath, not knowing if there will be another one. Please keep my Mother in prayer. This is an extremely difficult time for her. Our time of sadness is no different from thousands of others. We are not seeking your prayers to the extent that we would want you to neglect prayer for the needs of other friends with equally pressing needs. Let's just stand together with the body of Christ for needs of our brothers and sisters in the Lord. God is able to meet them all." Updates are viewable at Jimmy Blackwood site

Crabb Family reaches 10th number one song January 29, 2002

BEAVER DAM, KY. "The Reason That I'm Standing" marks the tenth number one song for the Crabb Family. Crabb Family asks for your prayers January 14, 2002
BEAVER DAM, KY- The Crabb Family songs still ring amidst a few unexpected setbacks. Kathy Crabb's sister, Anneta Fields, who is also the Crabb Family's office manager, recently suffered a series of strokes. Although Anneta is home and recovering, her health condition has caused her to no longer be able to work in the Crabb Family's office. She will still remain active in the Crabb Family's ministry while taking a much-needed rest.

Just as the Crabb Family office kicks into overtime to see that everything is under control, Kathy Crabb has suffered a minor injury. An accidental fall in her home has left Kathy with a broken leg. Doctors are still determining the extent of Kathy's recovery process. She is scheduled to undergo surgery early next week. The toughest part of this situation is trying to convince Kathy that she needs to take a break from the road for recovery. Although Kathy will be slowed down physically for a few weeks, she is still going strong. Family members report that she has not missed a phone call. No doubt, new ideas for the Crabb Family will develop during her recovery.

The Crabb Family asks that you remember them in your prayers. Get well cards may be sent to: P.O. Box 227 Beaver Dam, KY 42320.

James Blackwood In Serious Condition January 4, 2002
James Blackwood, member of the original Blackwood Brothers and known across this nation as "Mr. Gospel Music", suffered a stroke back on December 14th and on Sunday December 23 was taken to Methodist Hospital in Memphis. The family reports he has been experiencing extreme paid in his head. The doctors think there may be a tear somewhere in the area of the stroke in the cerebellum. An arteriogram might find the source of the trouble but the test itself could cause another stroke. Any surgery would also pose that same risk of another stroke. The family asks you to keep James and his wife Mim in your prayers.

Recent updates are posted at: http://www.jimmyblackwood.org/superintendent.htm

James began singing with his family when he was only 15. The original Blackwood Brothers consisted of James, his brothers Roy and Doyle, and his nephew R.W. Through the years, the popularity and influence of Southern Gospel Music grew, in large part because of the efforts and ministry of James.
James has been nominated for a Grammy Award for 28 consecutive years—a record for consecutive nominations in all fields of music. He has received 9 Grammy Awards, 7 Dove Awards, Four Singing News fan awards, and was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1974 and Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1996. He was voted the best gospel singer of the 20th century. James has sung in the White House for several U.S. Presidents and has ministered in many nations around the world. He has sold over 20 million records during his years of ministry in song. This past year, James returned to his native Mississippi to be inducted in the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame together with his brothers Roy and Doyle.
