"December 28, 2001:
Hovie Lister passed away early this evening. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. More information will be posted to the web site as it becomes available. Please keep the Lister family in your prayers." http://www.statesmenquartet.com/map.htm

Here is a brief biography:
Hovie Lister was a young master of gospel piano played with groups like the LeFevre Trio, the Homeland Harmony Quartet, and The Rangers, before putting together his own group The Statesmen in the late 1940's. He led the Statesmen to appearances of NBC, ABC, and CBS television networks as a feature on the Arthur Godfrey Show, Tennessee Ernie Ford Show, Dave Garroway’s Wide World Show, and the Jimmy Dean Show. Hovie Lister and The Statesmen were said to have "put rhythm in religion". He was designated by the governor of the state of Georgia as "Ambassador of Good Will" for the state.

Hovie Lister was an ordained minister of the Southern Baptist Church and served as a pastor for 12 years in North Georgia. He was a member and deacon at the Druid Hills Baptist Church in Atlanta.
